About eight years ago, we were kayaking underneath a sycamore tree, which belongs to the Carolinian species. I happened to look back and there was a bald eagle sitting in the sycamore tree. I was lucky to have a good camera with me, and I got the best picture I’ve ever taken.​

When I visited John’s house, I felt I was stepping into a time machine. Literally, he has a collection of 60 clocks, almost all of which are in working order. The ticking and tocking in the background, with some of them chiming in every quarter on the hour between our conversations, took some getting used to.
